Malakate Brothers

Malakate Brothers, “Brotherhood in sculpture”

Jacob and Frangiskos Malakates were born in the village Ysternia of Tinos during the early years of the Greek Revolution of 1821.

Both showed their inclination for art, from an early age, something remarked by their father who was a marble sculptor.

Their family moved to Athens in 1835 and established themselves in a marble workshop at the junction of the roads Korais and Stadiou.

They managed to save the Parthenon from possible collapse, supporting it technically

All their lifetime long, they never stopped creating works of art and rebuilding public and private buildings while their lab was awarded repeatedly.
